The Southwest Region was established in 1932. Enda Kinchion became the region's first Regional Director and was instrumental in planning the first Southwest Regional Conference in 1933, held in Austin, Texas.

Crystal T. Barker
Southwest Regional Director

Crystal is a native of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Crystal is the mother of one daughter, Ashley, who she says is her motivation and inspiration. Crystal’s obedience to God has lead her to welcome a god-daughter and god-granddaughter (Debra and Lyberty) to her family tree. She is the daughter of Samuel and Earnestean Holloway of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Howard and Donna McNeal of Flint, Michigan. Crystal is the second of five siblings.

Crystal is a member of Eighth Street Baptist Church, were Rev. Jameel Wesley is her pastor. She is a member of the JUST Young Adult Ministry, serving in the Sunday School, choir and on the usher board.

She is the Staff Coordinator for Organizational Development and Training for the State of Arkansas. She does not take her responsibilities lightly. She knows that some jobs are jobs, but some jobs are ministries. She takes every opportunity she gets to share the love of God with as many people as she can.

Crystal has a personal motto when it comes to working: “I did not come to impress, I came to bless”.

Crystal’s careers in social work and human resources has lead her to working in several management positions, including being training director for Parentpoints, Inc. She has given hundreds of presentations and workshop to corporate, for-profit, non-profit and faith-based organization in a variety of industries including government, education, social services, and church associations.

​

Crystal received her undergraduate degree from Philander Smith College in Sociology, and a Double Masters in Human Resource Management/Leadership Organization. Crystal has a passion for working with people of all ages. She has traveled the state facilitating workshops for women in prison, transition homes, battered shelters, schools, and churches to name a few. She has shared God’s word at many Women’s Day programs, events, and brunches.

She has served in the past as serving as Chapter President, 1st Vice President, Southwest Region Risk Management Coordinator, State Facilitator, Regional Collegiate Coordinator, a member of Leadership Academy, and Southwest member of the National Nominating Committee. She is also the founder of the Hilton Chandler Scholarship Fund.

Crystal says that she knows that only what she does for Christ will last.

Crystal philosophy on life is, “If God said it…Just do it.” Crystal says that it is political correct to read a bio, but the thing that she is most proud of is that she is a child of God.

​

Crystal’s diverse expertise and talents have led her to being a consultant, speaker, trainer and author. Her book, “Breaking Down Barriers for a Chance to Heal”, powerfully exemplifies how love and caring is essential for success in any instance where people come together to guide the youth of this nation. We shape and build better people in life and in business when love and caring is at the core of those lives touched and being touched.

Kamyia Gibbs
Southwest Regional Representative

Kamyia Gibbs is a senior at the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas, pursuing a B.S. in Psychology with minors in Sports Media and Forensic Science. As a dedicated COLA Dean’s Ambassador, Kamyia is deeply invested in recruiting new students and championing Black representation within the college. She works tirelessly to ensure that all voices—especially those from underrepresented backgrounds—are not only heard but truly valued, fostering a more

inclusive and enriching environment for everyone in the academic community.

A proud Fall 2022 initiate of the exceptional Epsilon Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Kamyia has demonstrated strong leadership and a deep commitment to service. She has served in a variety of impactful roles, including chapter president, physical and mental health chair, and as a member of the Technology Committee, where she worked to elevate the chapter’s presence and engagement on social media. Recently elected as the South West Regional Representative for the 2024-2026 biennium, Kamyia continues to lead with purpose and passion, always striving to make a positive impact on her sisterhood and beyond. One of Kamyia’s key goals for the Southwest Region is to ensure that collegiates have the proper tools and resources to ease their transition from active chapters to alumnae status. She is passionate about connecting sisterly bonds across generations, helping collegiates feel supported and valued well beyond their undergraduate years. By fostering mentorship, leadership development, and a continued sense of sisterhood, Kamyia aims to build lasting relationships that transcend age and remain strong long after graduation. Kamyia is also a proud fraternal twin, which has naturally fostered her competitive spirit and love for sports.

 

When she's not immersed in her academic or leadership roles, you can often find her watching football or indulging her creative side by cooking, baking, and crafting DIY projects. With a heart dedicated to advocacy, leadership, and community service, Kamyia Gibbs is a true force for positive change. Her commitment to empowering others and creating spaces for inclusion continues to inspire those around her. Kamyia’s impact extends far beyond the UT campus, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership, sisterhood, and service.
